Fall 2020: Welcome!

Welcome!

I am excited to have you in my class and get to know you this semester! We will all be learning together how to use this new digital platform, so if you have questions you are probably not the only one. Don’t hesitate to reach out if something is unclear to you. 😊

The digital classroom in CTLS is where we will hold live class each day. I will be posting all the resources for each day both here on the blog, and in the resources tab of the digital classroom. This is just in case we have any technology glitches! Hopefully the digital classroom will function perfectly and you won’t ever have to go to the blog, but we need a backup, just in case! 😊 This semester, it is going to be very important to be able to print things out! So make sure you are stocked up on printer paper and ink. If printing is an issue for you, please let me know!  If you do not want to print, you may get a spiral notebook or binder/paper to hand write your notes and practice problems. Anything you submit this way will need to be neat and organized with the problem numbered, written out, all the work shown, and the answer clearly circled or boxed in.

General supplies that you will need for me:

  • Printer/Paper/Ink
  • Pencils with Erasers
  • Notebook paper
  • Calculator* (See what your class requires below)
  • 1.5 or 2  inch binder with dividers
  • Colored pencils or pens/highlighters
  • Compass and ruler* (Geometry class only)

*Geometry: Scientific Calculator is fine

*Honors Algebra 2: Graphing Calculator TI83 or TI84

Week of 5/11

Algebra 1: Exponentials Review, Quiz Thursday, Final Assignment Opens Wednesday

Honors Geometry: Review Probability, Test Tuesday, Then begin reviewing for our Final

Both classes: We will have a “Final Assignment” that will take the place of the EOC. Since it is worth so much, it does have the potential to help your grade a good bit. Please take advantage of this opportunity.

About the EOC Replacement Grade, both classes:

We are almost done with spring semester! One question that a few of you have been asking, “What’s going to happen with the 20% of my grade for the EOC?” On Wednesday May 13, a Delta Math assignment will be open. It covers a wide variety of topics we have covered throughout the semester. Unlike our homework assignments in Delta Math, this one will take .25 of a point off for incorrect answers. These points can be earned back by getting extra problems in that section correct. This is just to discourage guessing. If you are having trouble with a particular section, the “show example” tab is still available to use, and you may ask me questions. I will be posting review info and help videos throughout the next week to help you with this assignment. You have the opportunity to make a 100 here that is worth 20% of your final grade! If you are only a point or two away from the next letter grade, this is an amazing opportunity. The assignment opens on Wednesday May 13th at 6am, and closes Tuesday May 19th at 8pm. If you do not complete this assignment, or if the score you have at the end of the window on May 19th would not help you, the score will be exempt from your final grade. Per county policy, only helpful grades will be counted. Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope you are all doing well. 🙂

Week of 4/3

Algebra: This week we will talk more about quadratic functions. First we will review solving them, then we will compare their graph features. Quiz Friday.

Honors Geometry: We are continuing probability. We will quiz on Tuesday.

Week of 4/27

Algebra: Unit 3C Test scores are posted. If the grade helped you, it is entered in Synergy. If you took the test, but it didn’t help you,  it is marked “Exempt” in the grade book. If you did not take the test, it is marked as “missing.”   Click this link to see what you missed:  See your completed test and what you missed! Please email me if you have any questions about why a a certain grade is not entered for you 🙂 The grade book is fully up to date as of 4/24

Monday we begin our “Comparing Functions” unit. We will go back over the key concepts of our three function types, starting with Linear Functions. We will take a quiz on Thursday.

Honors Geometry: Unit 4B scores are posted! If the grade helped you, it is entered in Synergy. If you took the test, but it didn’t help you it is marked “Exempt” in the grade book.
